As per human nature, the rumour mill and convergence of ill-informed crap masquerading as opinion are boiling away just as Australia is trying to focus on the crunch game v Serbia. needing 3 points and a 5 goal turnaround in our F and A, it is hardly the time for the mistress to be parading the new beau before the rich old man goes into the earth. Rale Rasic's opinion that we should be signing Ricki Herbert as our next coach falls somewhere in the triangle with angles George Burns, Mr Magoo and Woody Allen in the myopia stakes.
Perhaps Ricki Lake should also be interviewed if the name is what we are so attracted to, as I can’t see anybody’s interest being maintained after Paraguay bring the Kiwis back to reality on Friday morning.
This banal nationalistic push for a homegrown coach is nauseating. Rale has one point though: it is indeed criminal that the FFA could not find a place for Raul Blanco. The man has gotten over the decision by the FFA to persist with Graham Arnold by pursuing coaching elsewhere. The rest of us still have to live by the goose's actions. Bresciano's snubbing of Arnold after being substituted illustrated the disrespect for the man. How the FFA can seriously not have regrets about the man's continuing appointment is beyond a joke.
There will be plenty of time to hunt for Verbeek's successor after the campaign ends. If not for the coach himself, whi deserves little synpathy for his squad choice, choice of assistant and tactics v Germany, then at least for the players who do not need this peripheral crap as they attempt the impossible.
