THE LAST 16 - SPAIN, PARAGUAY, CHILE

Quickly wrapping up the last 16 teams (by my flawed estimation anyway), we look at Spain, Paraguay and Chile:

SPAIN
Spain's only weakness according to The Age is accurately stated as the burden of history, in as much as they have perennially failed to live up to their potential. The silk runs aplenty from back to front with a potential starting line up of:

CASILLAS

PUYOL PIQUE RAMOS ARBELOA

FABREGAS INIESTA XAVI SILVA

VILLA TORRES

Enpugh said. Spain to win the 2010 World Cup. There you go, I've popped my neck in the proverbial chopping block.

PARAGUAY
Paraguay post-Chilavert is an attacking unit that has suffered from a lack of defensive balance. Coach Gerardo Martino will have to decide whether to go out with his strengths or play deeper. With a favourable group Paraguay could even top the group and avoid the Dutch. With Italy's poor form, this is a distinct possibility.

CHILE
Coach Marcelo Bielsa returns with his left field 3-3-1-3 formation that proved a bomb in the 2002 finals with Argentina. Despite sharing Paraguay's deficit at the back, the Chilean public feels that this is their best chance for many years to progress further than the round of 16.
