Serbia v Germany - Not Even Klose

Other headlines could have included the 'HERR RAISING' (www.thesun.co.uk) and the above from www.bild.de.

At 8 yellow cards, the referee tonight is still way short of Valentin Ivanov's impressive 16 yellow and 4 red cards issued during the 2006 Holland-Portugal Caartenfest in the round of 16.

Some inconsistency definitely on show as the referee seeks opportunities to try and even the caution count, and letting some tackles from behind go that were similar to the 2 that Miroslav Klose earned his expulsion with.

The Serbs are playing with more calm than their first group match v Ghana, well unless you count Nemanja Vidic's stupid handball that is. Interesting to see the Germans playing in a flustered manner with 3 at the back and 3 upfront. Coach Loew looks like Kyle McLachlan after a year in the sauna with Simon Cowell.

Should they lose, there'll be enough ex-players eager to stick the knife into a young team that showed no maturity under pressure (thanks Oliver Kahn we heard you twice the first time). Lukas Podolski has had more chances to score than Kevin had with Winnie Cooper in The Wonder Years.

FT and a glorious win for Serbia. Eight cautions, a send off, a missed penalty and some non-sanitised celebrating with the fans. Nice way to spend a Friday evening. Not the ideal result for us, but should we defeat Ghana, we are all even leading into the final group match.

Serbia 1
Germany 0
