Upfront, I can only name 2 more inappropriate appointments;
1 Pierce Brosnan's appointment as a successor to Ringo Starr and Michael Angelis as narrators for Thomas the Tank Engine
2 Wayne Carey as a TV pundit on Ch9 (he would be more at home as an extra on a Fellini movie)
That bolus of vitriol out of the way, I find the appointment staggering. Did Big Ben miss his eye test recall and mistake Aurelio forJoe Mullen? Is Joe laughing his nose off somewhere at the irony?
Why would the FFA appoint the goose as an assistant BEFORE the appointment of the head honcho? Were they looking to ward off any reasonable coaches whgo would take one look at the man's career before saying 'No thanks...'? This again, along with the lack of free to air exposure of the A-league to be an exercise in self-limitation, the fear of being too successful. Are we that pessimistic that the Guus exercise was us batting above our average?
Look forward FFA not backwards. Remember November 27 1997, but for **** sake don't look back.

That news deserves more than an acronym to express our disgust. I am indeed fearful. There is no hope for any Aussie coach until Australia can attain consistent top 10 World Ranking. That will be some time in my children's lifetime I hope when we will have some true talent to choose from.
